What Went Wrong With Demigod?

May 19th, 2009 by Troy Goodfellow · 1 Comment · Gas Powered Games, Industry, Multiplayer, Stardock

It’s sort of a shame that the multiplayer launch problems have overshadowed how great Demigod is. It’s my early favorite for best strategy game of the year, but I’ve had no shortage of headaches and grief over how difficult it is to get a big MP skirmish going.

Brad Wardell, still wearing his hair shirt, has just written a long comment explaining what went wrong from his perspective.

The good news?

The plan is to send out an email this week to users who purchased Demigod prior to today with a coupon for 50% off of Demigod that they can give to their friends. In addition, next week we will begin sending coupons for other things on Impulse to active Demigod players to help ensure a vibrant multiplayer community. We plan to keep doing that periodically.

So now you will have more friends to play with.

Hopefully.

Well, the proxy servers seemed to have fixed the last remaining major problems for me, at least in custom games. Pantheon’s still too sparsely populated in Europe to be worth the bother, but hopefully the retail release and word of mouth on the connectivity changes will improve things. It’s a good thing, too, as I was just about ready to give up on the game at the start of this week.
