I liked it more than I thought I would. When you pull off an assault against an entrenched enemy with minor losses and combined arms, it really feels nice. It looks pretty good, too and the reinforcement based on objectives is a great way to encourage action and progress.
Ultimately, it comes apart because the interface […]

Kane’s Wrath Review
April 16th, 2008 · No Comments
I was playing Kane’s Wrath with a friend a couple of weeks ago and mentioned that I thought Command and Conquer 3 was the best AAA strategy game of 2007. Like a lot of people, he thought I was crazy, at least until I mentioned that I wasn’t including expansion packs. Let’s face it - […]

American Civil War

My review of AGEod’s American Civil War is now up at Gameshark. I really like what AGEod has been doing, and this title is a smart pickup for CDV.

Sins of a Solar Empire Preview
January 18th, 2008 · 3 Comments
My preview of Sins of a Solar Empire is up at Gameshark. If you haven’t been following this game, do yourself a favor and check out everything you can. Still some work to be done, but I think Ironclad and Stardock have a real shot at something special here.

Total War: Kingdoms Review

My review of Medieval II: Total War - Kingdoms is up at Gameshark.
I loved this expansion. As good as Medieval II is, the Kingdoms pack adds more than enough variety, flavor and cleverness to keep you hooked for a while. There is some really nice stuff going on here, and adding the SDK means that […]

Asian Dynasties Review
December 6th, 2007 · 2 Comments
My review of Age of Empires III: Asian Dynasties can be found on Gameshark. Better late than never.
The long and short of it is that the Asian nations are very powerful. Their explorers are better so they can get the early treasures faster. They age up with wonders, some of which have special powers, like […]

Nethergate Review
November 16th, 2007 · 5 Comments
My review of Nethergate: Resurrection is up at Gameshark. The text pretty much says it all. I have a fondness for the Spiderweb games, so your mileage may vary. But if you like RPGs with tons of sidequests and turn based combat, you owe it to yourself to try the demo.

Panzer Tactics and the DS
October 29th, 2007 · 12 Comments
My brief preview of Panzer Tactics is up at Gameshark. I never quite know what to write in previews, and I’m not sure this one is any exception.
Anyway, the parallels to ye olde Panzer General are obvious and not original with me. The tiny tanks take some getting used to, but it will probably fit […]

SimCity: Societies Preview
August 20th, 2007 · 6 Comments
The fruit of my brief trip to EA Headquarters ten days ago can be found now on Gameshark.
A lot of people will not like this game. Societies turns its back on so many SimCity assumptions that the hardcore city building audience will be astonished. Not that this is a bad thing. I agree with Rod […]
