IGN is reporting that 2k Games has put the Wii version of the upcoming console Civilization on hold “indefinitely.” The DS version goes on, though it looks a lot like other turn-based strategy games on that platform, only more crowded and a little uglier. Plus, it has ninjas.

Upon seeing the screenies did anyone else immediately think, “Civilization: Advance Wars”?
Ah well, I’ll still end up picking it up I’m sure.
Yeah, the DS has a very Adv War look to it. The 360 and PS3 versions, though, look really original.
Well, as they said on Qt3 they looked at Advance Wars to see how to make a strategy game work on the DS. More power to them since that series is excellent in every way!
Also, you really need those chubby cartoon icons to make a game playable at that low resolution. Age of Empires DS tried for a more realistic look, and the result was an unsightly and barely playable mess IMO.
But Panzer Tactics went for a more grounded look, and I think they pulled it off fine. The cartoon look always seems more like a designer’s personal choice, and probably a marketing decision (it’s a DS game, no one over 12 plays these things), than a real need.
I was mildly interested in this for the Wii, but I guess with another update for Rhye’s and Fall for BTS I’ll keep picking away at that between games of Victoria and HOI2.
