It takes so long because you’re not playing the 360 version…
I say this with the smug superiority of a 360 owner whose best gaming PC at this point barely meets the Bioshock minimum specs. Yes, it’s time to upgrade…

I stayed up to 3:30 playing this puppy until I realized I really, really had to go to sleep this time (I kept promising myself I would stop after the next section…and then the next section…and…). My hands were crippled from controller-cramp (playing on the 360) and my knees ached from sitting in front of the TV for so long, but it was worth it.
It’s been a long, long time since any shooter captured me like that, not to mention it’s been forever since a game actually lived up to the anticipation. Before it arrived I had contemplated digging up SS2 to play again but now realize there’s no need; here it is again, reborn and better than ever.
And let me tell you something once again the audio carries the day. Too many developers don’t understand the importance of good audio, and Bioshock’s creep factor is pushed up so many notches because of the sound work. I was mentioning this to some folks who worked at Looking Glass/Irrational back in the day and apparently we have Eric Brocious to thank for the audio. They call him the best sound designer in the biz, and by God, they’re right.

Not to mention the driver download, mysterious crash and installation of runtime components…

I watched the end of a DVD during install – it wasn’t as long as some games, actually. :)
AND OMG is this game ever gorgeous.
When I get back from my trip I’m running out and buying an 8800 so I can crank the details up to high. ;)

The audio freaks me out – they did an amazing job on it.
I say PC FTW in terms of ergonomics of playing with mouse+keyboard, though. :p
