School’s Out

June 16th, 2006 by Troy Goodfellow · 5 Comments · Uncategorized

The last exam taken, the last form submitted, the last tearful farewell from a student and my year of teaching has come to an end. I had a lot of fun, learned a lot about myself and my tolerance for bureaucracy and public school expectations.

But I can’t say that I’m sad that it is over.

Plans for the summer:

1) Finally get this blog on to my own domain.
2) Deliver all my promised articles on a more regular schedule.
3) Get a couple of chapters written on my book.
4) Get this blog on a routine, with regular weekly features.
5) Clean my house.
6) Play more games.

Top of that “play” list is to play more Gal Civ 2. This is one of my favorite games of the year so far, but I haven’t had much time to play it since the review was written. It has been continually updated since release, and the new 1.2 update is supposed to be a big one. Stay tuned for my opinion on that.

    Hi Troy-

I’m definintely looking for the chance to play some Gal Civ II myself – I’d be very interested in your thoughts.

One other thing – why not use summer to work on your unfinished games list? Surely you have one…

    Unfinished games list…interesting idea.

Since I play mostly strategy games, the only unfinished parts are usually the single-player campaigns.

But, since my wife finished Throne of Bhaal without me a few years ago, this might be a good time for me to see what I missed. It was, apparently, amazing.

    Troy:

Do you have time to play games you actually like? Your reviews of Middle Earth II is one of the reasons I got it. But I wonder how often you get a chance to play it given how many different games you play for review.

Or do you just prefer to skip from game to game and enjoy the intricacies of how the game was made?

I do have some time to play games I like. Once the work day is done, I return to old favorites like BfME2, Civ 4, Crusader Kings and now, the bane of my existence, OOTP Baseball.

BTW, I make a lousy general manager.

But the preview/review cycle can make this seem like cheating. After all, why am I playing Civ 4 when I could be playing Rush to Berlin and getting work done?
