I have to say that I did not expect this.

They must have listened to the podcast, RE: fort simulation. =)

But what a completely useless article that says *nothing* about the series or the new game. Awful.

“… drive further growth for the franchise, enhance our revenue stream through traditional retail sales, as well as significantly strengthen our digital offering where there remains tremendous growth opportunity…”

To be fair, Mauricio, it’s not like there is much information out there. Even on the official forum, all they have is “It is announced.”

Well, I mean the quote from the publisher (not WorthPlaying), which just sounds like boilerplate business-speak. They could at least say “…sequel to the acclaimed castle-building real-time strategy game…” or something to give an idea what the series is about.

Good to know that something is in the works, though. I also didn’t expect it.

I’m somewhat disappointed they’re not pursuing Dungeon Hero, though admittedly it sounded a bit too good to be implemented. I’m interested in Stronghold 3 though, so my disappointment isn’t all that much.

if you watched some of the early gameplay footage for dungeon hero it seemed to be moving into becoming something of a dull console action adventure thing though didn’t it? there was a quite long narrated gameplay video for it on gametrailers I think that really put me off it

I’m super excited about this stronghold 3 announcement though.. despite the no info part. day night cycle. hopefully they can get back into the incredible 1 and crusader groove for this. kingdoms is supposed to be great, but I’m not really interested in that, it sounds more like focus on combat because of the big multiplayer thing going on. I just want to build build build, mostly

    I still want a post-apocalyptic city-builder. Zombies optional.

I’m cautiously optimistic over the news, I loved Stronghold 1 and was completely caught off guard with how bad Stronghold 2 . Isn’t this technically Stronghold 4 though? I remember there was a Stronghold game that had vampires and monsters in it. Now I’m going to have to grab the stronghold pak over at GoG to reminisce

I’ll take a look at the new game, of course. Having played and somewhat enjoyed the really flawed and essentially trivial earlier Strongholds, I still hope that a real castle builder/wargame will appear. If only Stronghold and Dwarf Fortress could merge!
