Since this has become Majesty 2 week, I thought I should point you to my colleague’s review over at Fidgit. For some people, a near perfect copy is enough.
For the most part, Majesty 2 is the same game as Majesty. Which is fine by me. The original game was a near work of genius for how it carved out its own niche. It violated rules, broke genres, and confounded expectations. It sat somewhere between a conventional real time strategy game, a city builder, an RPG, and an ecosystem, but it wasn’t any of those things. It was the Will Wright game that Will Wright never made.
He complains about the interface, and he’s right to do so. While all the basic tasks are nicely laid out, there is still a lot of hidden information.

I was looking forward to Majesty 2. However, the review on GameBanshee, which nicely sums up the changes from the first Majesty, has made a purchase unllikely at full price.
It seems like they tinkered with a really clever design, and made it worse.
