With so many companies scaling back their operations, and so many layoffs affecting so many people, it’s always nice to read about a company growing.
Especially nice when that company is the ever reliable Stardock.
Helped in part by generous Michigan tax breaks, developer/publisher Stardock (Sins of a Solar Empire, Demigod) is planning a $900,000 expansion of its headquarters to accomodate development of a new PC roleplaying game.
An RPG will be a nice change from their strategy stable.

Demigod is going to be great for their bottom line, even though it’s essentially a sexed up Defense of the Ancients clone.

Is Demigod the giant minotaur game? I thought that was by Gas Powered Games?

Never mind, I just now read the post.

Have to sell a lot more videogames for $900,000! I wish them well. Or else I’ll crush ’em with my own Minotaur brothers!

Wait, unless you live in MI, then when you buy games from Stardock, you won’t pay any MI sales tax. Wouldn’t that mean the gain to the local economy would only be from jobs created?

At this point, anyone in Michigan can tell you, we will settle for any jobs at this point.

Don’t forget the multiplier effect: if I have a great job, then I have money for you slackers hanging out at the 7-11 or even for purchasing stuff from your stores, restaurants, and other businesses. We all gain.

Ha! Western Civilization Software is also headquartered in Michigan. Our “headquarters,” such as they are, consists of a computer with two monitors on a desk in the living room of our president/programmer/lead designer — a room which he shares with five kids who run around screaming while he programs. Plus there’s a large basement set up with tables and shelves filled with countless board games. Sounds like we should get try to get ourselves some tax breaks, though I’d personally vote that the money first go to hiring a plumber to retrieve the toy his daughter dropped into the downstairs toilet before we do any new construction…
