Will Wright has to be one of the best interviews on the planet. He’s open about what he thinks, is always thought-provoking and has the appearance of a man who effortlessly walks the line between genius and madness. The Guardian has recently published a brief interview<\/a> with the Man from Maxis and it doesn’t disappoint.<\/p>\n

You know what does disappoint? The first news blurbs about this interview frame it entirely in the context of the console war. From Shack News, “Spore Confirmed for Wii<\/a>” and the post continues to talk about platform viability. From Voodoo Extreme: “Will Wright Worships Wii.<\/a>”<\/p>\n

Me? I find these sentences more interesting.<\/p>\n

“From a kid’s point of view gaming feels somewhat subversive.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I think we culturally disconnect the concepts of play and education, when play really is education and that’s how we developed it evolutionarily.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

“There are a lot of little things that we’ve achieved that I didn’t think we would \u00e2\u20ac\u201c things like procedural music, with computers composing music on the fly.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

“…as a game designer I’d rather work in an area that is under-represented.”<\/strong><\/p>\n
