{"id":405,"date":"2006-08-28T16:36:46","date_gmt":"2006-08-28T20:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/flashofsteel.com\/index.php\/2006\/08\/28\/rise-of-the-witch-king\/"},"modified":"2006-08-28T16:36:46","modified_gmt":"2006-08-28T20:36:46","slug":"rise-of-the-witch-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flashofsteel.com\/index.php\/2006\/08\/28\/rise-of-the-witch-king\/","title":{"rendered":"Rise of the Witch King"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If my readers can tolerate yet another post about <em>Battle for Middle Earth II<\/em> (since <a href=\"http:\/\/rpgcodex.com\/phpBB\/viewtopic.php?t=14596&#038;highlight=bfme2&#038;sid=3625793a26564dd1ec35584601fc2da5\">I&#8217;ve been pegged a fanboy<\/a> and all&#8230;), Andrew Park has written a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/pc\/strategy\/battleformiddleearth2witchking\/preview_6156127.html\">good preview of the upcoming expansion<\/a> for Gamespot.<\/p>\n<p>My knowledge of Tolkien lore is fairly thin. I couldn&#8217;t get past the opening chapters in <em>Silmarillon<\/em> and, beyond the sacred trilogy and <em>The Hobbit<\/em>, the only Tolkien works that have held much fascination for me are the <em>Letters from Father Christmas<\/em>. But it looks like <em>Rise of the Witch King<\/em> will fill in some of the pre-<em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> goings on for me. No need to do any of that fussy reading stuff.<\/p>\n<p>The strengthening of walls in the expansion could change the game in dramatic ways. Counter-building spells could become more important, and siege units may not be a luxury any more. Given the game&#8217;s existing bias towards aggressive movement from the very beginning, some people will find their play style shift quite a bit. Enabling armies of mixed units to stick together better is a nice interface change, but hardly necessary on maps as constricted as most of the <em>BfME2<\/em> maps. The new faction means that there will likely be some balancing all around.<\/p>\n<p>No release date yet, but I&#8217;m getting it when it comes out.
